Designing Your Vinyl Banner For Visibility
When designing your banner the first thing to keep in mind is how far away with the people viewing it will be? There are two distances to consider, the first is the Impact zone, this is the distance where your banner will have the most impact on visibility. The second is the max readability zone, how far away can someone be and still read your banner?
Let’s look at some examples. First we will look at a max impact zone of 100 feet. This means that at 100 feet away from your banner your message will have the most impact on the viewer. This distance equates to a maximum viewing distance of 450 feet. To reach these levels your main text or message must have a letter height of 10 inches. These numbers are based on the level of contrast the letters and the background of your banner have. Lower contrast means these numbers go down.
On the extreme end of the viewing spectrum, let’s say you expect people to see your banner from 2500 feet away. This gives you a max impact range of only 600 feet. To achieve this your letting will need to be at least 60 inches tall. Now you can see why the signs of Las Vegas hotels are so big.
